Stralcio di una lettera\u00a0 di Dominique Bennett, ex assistente di Direzione di Esselunga, a Giuseppe Caprotti nell\u2019agosto 2009 \u00a0a proposito dei rapporti tra Giuseppe ed il padre, a cui si fa accenno nel libro di\u00a0 Filippo Astone, \u00a0Gli\u00a0Affari di famiglia.<\/a><\/h3>\n

<\/em> \u201c\u2026 Per me \u00e8 difficile immaginare l\u2019ampiezza del tumulto emotivo e della pressione che devi aver subito questi ultimi anni dopo il \u201ccolpo di stato\u201d. Rabbia, dolore, orgoglio ferito, delusione, odio, voglia di rivincita, disperazione, amarezza, solitudine e anche incredulit\u00e0 devono essere state presenti. Leggendo vedo i tanti segni di tuo padre che perfino io riconosco cos\u00ec bene nonostante il mio corto soggiorno al tuo fianco: il suo indiscutibile talento imprenditoriale, il marchio della sua personalit\u00e0 ed il suo carisma ma anche la sua prepotenza, il suo attaccar brighe, le esagerazioni teatrali, il fanatismo, la mania del controllo.<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/em>E\u2019 straordinario che tu sia riuscito a raggiungere quel livello di imprenditorialit\u00e0 talentuosa cos\u00ec giovane e in un modo cos\u00ec diverso dal suo: comunicando con la gente, motivandola, usando la delega, lasciando spazio ed una certa dose di fiducia alle persone. Sono sicuro che questo ha giocato moltissimo sulla mente di tuo padre in tutti quegli anni. La gelosia \u00e8 una cosa terribile, sai, assolutamente corrosiva. Da quello che ho visto lui era abituato a gestire le persone con una forte dose di paura, e nonostante ci\u00f2 era fortemente irritato nel vedere persone spaventate a morte da lui. Non amava gli stupidi ma disprezzava ancor pi\u00f9 i vigliacchi. Non ti ho mai visto affrontarlo verbalmente ma ti ho visto agire con quella determinazione ferrea tipicamente tua, con una tranquillit\u00e0 apparente ingannevole (ti ricordo contro Coca- Cola!), ottenendo risultati che doveva ammirare dentro di s\u00e9, se non apertamente: l\u2019introduzione del non food, la Fidaty, la pubblicit\u00e0, la comunicazione e soprattutto il fatto che le persone non solo ti rispettassero ma che tu gli piacessi<\/em> .<\/p>\n

<\/em>I risultati straordinari che stavi ottenendo agendo in un modo cos\u00ec antitetico rispetto al suo, devono aver alimentato il suo rancore. Penso che il \u201ccolpo di stato\u201d abbia significato reimporre il suo modo di gestire le cose che lui aveva sempre considerato il migliore e, ovviamente, l\u2019unico, perch\u00e9 Suo. E non poteva sopportare di lasciare il centro della scena.<\/p>\n

<\/em>Ma tu eri un rivale troppo forte. Tu facevi tremare la \u2013 sua \u2013 barca.<\/p>\n

But anyway, to get back to the book. It is hard for me (as you are after all a public personage) to imagine the extent of the emotional tumult and pressure that you must have suffered these past years since the “putsch”. Anger, hurt pride, disappointment, hatred, revenge, despair, bitterness, solitude and even disbelief must all have been there. Reading through the pages I see the many signs of your father which even I recognise so well despite my short period with you: his indisputable entrepreneurial talent, signature personality and charisma, but also the Bully, the exaggerated theatrics, the fanatic, the control freak. It is quite remarkable that you managed to achieve the level of his entrepreneurial talent so young and yet in such a different way: communicating with people, motivating them, delegating, giving them room and a certain amount of trust. I am sure that it is this that has played on your father’s mind all these years. Jealousy is a terrible thing you know, absolutely corrosive. From what I saw he used to manage people largely by fear, and yet I am sure it irritated him no end to see people scared stiff of him. He didn’t suffer fools gladly but I bet he scorns cowards even more. I never actually saw you stand up to him vocally but I saw you acting with that iron determination of yours, quiet as it may mistakenly seem (I remember you & Coca Cola!) getting results which he had to admire inwardly, if not openly : introduction of non food, Fidaty, publicity, communications and most of all that people not only respected you but liked you. It must have reached a point to have been quite galling because you were getting amazing results but acting in a way that was quite the opposite to himself. I suppose the putsch was him re-imposing his way which he had always considered the best and, indeed, only way, because His. And he couldn’t bear to leave centre stage. But you were too strong competition, you rocked the boat. What a pity, because you could have made a formidable and complementary team, when I think about it.<\/p>\n

For my part I am very honoured to have spent the few “golden” years with you before the tragedy. I won’t forget them and as you know I think, I was then and am still now a staunch supporter, and defender, of yourself. To have employed a foreigner at the time as your Assistant was novel, and involved a certain amount of risk let’s face it! I felt quite the “joker card” at the time!\u00a0Thank you for sending me the book. It has brought back many memories, and provoked both sadness at the wilful hurt it discusses as well as pride at having known and worked with the subject of discussion thereby enabling me to contribute my small and personal but vociferous defence.<\/p>\n

Good luck Giuseppe. Keep quietly determined, and keep in touch!<\/p>\n
