In Britain, one of the world\u2019s richest countries, growing numbers of workers are struggling to feed their children amid a devastating cost-of-living crisis.<\/a> Prices for groceries and energy have hit record highs, and austerity measures from Conservative-led governments have eaten away at benefits paid to many low-income families, including working households.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
In response to the crisis, the BBC has published dozens of online recipes costing less than a pound, or about $1.23, per portion. Some schools have turned down their heaters. And many communities have opened \u201cwarm spaces\u201d \u2014 heated public rooms for people with cold homes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Employment growth has left Britain with fewer out-of-work households, but many of those who found employment were still vulnerable when inflation hit a 41-year high a few months ago and wages failed to keep up. The incomes of low earners have grown more slowly in Britain than in other Western countries, including Germany and France.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
By the numbers: In October, consumer prices surged 11.1 percent from a year earlier. In December, consumer prices were still up more than 10 percent compared with a year earlier.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Nel Regno Unito, quasi un milione di persone non ha un frigorifero, quasi due milioni un fornello e quasi tre milioni un congelatore. (*) luoghi in cui i negozi non vendono cibi freschi o alimentari salutari, e si trovano solo cibi ultraprocessati.<\/a> … Nel Regno Unito, oltre tre milioni di persone non hanno un negozio che venda materie prime e alimenti non processati che sia possibile raggiungere con i mezzi pubblici in un arco temporale di 15 minuti… Esiste una chiara correlazione tra povert\u00e0 e densit\u00e0 di fast food, che nelle aree pi\u00f9 povere quasi raddoppiano…<\/p>\n
