The European Union has decided to ban imports of meat and other animal products from Brazil as of 3 September due to the use of antimicrobials to stimulate animal growth on farms. The decision was taken on Tuesday by a committee composed of experts from EU member states.
The measure is a particularly sensitive step because it comes just weeks after the provisional entry into force on 1 May of the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur, the trade bloc formed by Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay…
We had already written about it here : Canada : beef farmers against Mercosur. Because it concerns us (and we can add that ‘we had it all figured out, in advance’, also because, according to Gemini, antimicrobials can be considered as pesticides.
