His grandfather Guido ‘s activities in the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC) earned him many institutional and scientific awards. Among the most important were his appointment as Grand Officer of the Italian Republic in 1988, the Gold Medal of Civic Merit (‘Ambrogino d’Oro’) from the Municipality of Milan in 1989 (which also gives him the right, after his death, to have his name inscribed in the Famedio of the city’s Monumental Cemetery), and the Gold Medal of the Ministry of Health for civil merits in 1990.
