“My mother Giorgina was 17 when she married Bernardo in San Fedele, the Jesuit church right next to Palazzo Marino. The wedding photos show them together, she gorgeous, he a bit awkward like so many husbands on their wedding day, skinny, smart-eyed and hair confined to the nape of his neck. Dad is 32, almost twice as old as Giorgina, and is a charming man, full of charm. Mama also marries him because her parents, Guido Venosta and Luisa Quintavalle, do not get along. She will tell me that, for her, marriage represents an opportunity to escape from an environment full of negativity. (…)”. (p. 81).
In the first photograph Bernardo and Giorgina as they leave the church after the ceremony, in the second the bride and groom at the reception with one of the bridesmaids, Diana Theodoli [married to Marcello Pallini], born from grandmother Luisa’s second marriage to Niccolò Theodoli and therefore half-sister of the beautiful Giorgina. Behind the bride can be glimpsed her grandmother Marianne.
