“My father, who foresaw the future with great wisdom, believed that I should learn English perfectly. In fact, he thought that if almost the whole of the then advanced world already spoke English, in the near future all developments in science would be expressed in English. Hence the decision for me to spend all of my high school and gymnasium summer holidays in England. After appropriate contacts, a family was found willing to put me up in Ascot, Berkshire. (…). The house, a large cottage that stood on a lawn of shaved green grass, had a tennis court, where countless matches were played with ups and downs. (…) During these periods of my stay in England, I was usually entrusted to the care of Mr Lombardini, Administrator of the Pirelli House in London, who provided me with the few means I needed but who, above all, introduced me to some of the most famous restaurants in London, which amazed me with their magnificence and efficient service.
