After finishing high school, his grandfather did his military service at the Pinerolo Cavalry School, A.U.C. [Allievi Ufficiali di Complemento] course, where he graduated in 1932, and was then assigned to the Third Savoy Cavalry Regiment. His passion for horse riding remained with him throughout his life, even leading him to be part of hunting teams on horseback in both England and Italy.
