Bruno and Adele Quintavalle’s other children were also sportsmen and women, and at a high level: both Ferruccio, known as Illo, and Luisa Quintavalle ‘s grandmother’s twin sister Ida were national tennis champions (Ida was Italy’s no. 9 in 1939, and Italian women’s doubles champion in 1941 and 1942), and Ferruccio was also an international champion, reaching as far as the Wimbledon Tournament, Paris’s Roland Garros and the Davis Cup.
Once his competitive activities were over, Uncle Illo was hired by the cycling company Bianchi, of which he became general manager; in 1955, to lift the factory out of its post-war difficulties, he managed to involve FIAT and Pirelli in an operation that gave birth to Autobianchi, the car company that produced the legendary ‘Bianchina’.
The archive holds copies of several articles on the Quintavalle brothers’ racing activities.
