From a LinkedIN post
An extraordinary manifestation of democracy and freedom.
A great mobilisation with 20 thousand farmers from all over Italy to demand a different Europe, closer to the needs of farms and more attentive to the health of citizens #consumers.
To ask the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for an even more rigorous approach in the assessment of cell-based foods produced in laboratories.
It was precisely with EFSA’s top management that we had an open and constructive discussion, appreciating their great willingness to listen to our requests and clarify the evaluation procedures that the Authority applies to ensure the food safety of European citizens.
And we are satisfied with EFSA’s commitment to conduct every necessary analysis on every single notified product, including pre-clinical and clinical tests on food derived from cell cultures and precision fermentation.
This confirms the importance of utmost caution and transparency in the introduction of foods that may have as yet unknown impacts on human health.
We also welcome the confirmation that applications for authorisation submitted before 1 February 2025 will be assessed according to the highest scientific standards, using updated criteria contained in the latest guidelines.
This is a fundamental guarantee to ensure that every new food is subjected to the same stringent safety standards, regardless of the date of application
#let’s make light (on what we don’t know)
But scientists are against Coldiretti. ‘Cultured meat like drugs? It’s a lie, no scientific basis’.
Isn’t Ettore Prandini inspired by the no-vax minister Robert F Kennedy Junior? Or does he simply prefer not to see reality in the face, for example: ‘Where Italy is going’: Sardinia, in the last 15 years there has been a 52% collapse in cultivation.
Coldiretti should deal with something else entirely, for example : unfair practices and exploitation of workers, but it prefers “the usual propaganda”, intimidating and harmful.
