The picture from almost a hundred years ago shows a pale, curly-haired child, confident and smiling. The now receding adult at ease on the sofa in the second photo was already my father.

“I owe my father and his insistence the opportunity I had to learn my trade and do a job that got under my skin in a way I never expected at the beginning. I have received so much from him, including the great wealth that I have enjoyed throughout my life. I have been fortunate to work with people who have taught me a great deal and I have been able to make an undeniable contribution to bringing the family business into modernity. Unfortunately, I also owe to my father, to that side of his personality that I have tried to explore in this writing, the fact that my work was taken away from me and the years that were taken away from me.
