Quick Take — The best tuna according to Altroconsumo

The best product – according to the Altroconsumo test – is Riomare’s pole-fished tuna in olive oil with a rating of 74/100.
In second place, with 73/100, is Angelo Parodi’s tuna steak in olive oil, followed by AsdoMar’s whole tuna steak in olive oil and Coop Fior Fiore’s yellowfin tuna fillets, both with 72/100.
The recommendation for the best buy, which indicates the reference with the best quality/price ratio, goes to tuna fillets in olive oil from Ondina, Eurospin’s seafood brand.

Is the presence of a discount chain a bit surprising? I must say that, in tasting, Lidl products do not disfigure. Quite the contrary. And Eurospin has made great strides on the road to quality.

The sector is down (-4%) due to Shrinkinflation

Tigros in Arluno (Milan): large-scale retail does not grow, rather retreats

Tigros’ roadside advertising is misleading (deceptive), it does not say that there are categories exempt from 3×2, and that alone could be enough to say: you don’t do such things. An unseemly spectacle for the large-scale retail trade and for the country

Quick Take — The situation of chicken farms in Italy is disastrous: absent from the agreements on animal welfare and meat quality are large groups such as Conad, Coop, Esselunga but also all discount stores

This is according to the ChickenTrack 2024 report by Compassion in World Farming (CIWF)… The Italian companies that have made medium- to long-term (2-3 years) commitments to convert their farms and comply with the improved welfare requirements of the ECC are Eataly, Bofrost, Carrefour, the Fileni Group and Cortilia. The ECC criteria include the reduction of animal density in the sheds, the use of better stunning methods at the slaughter stage and, above all, the choice to rear chickens with a slower growth rate.

The result is this: chicken full of fat

Gfk: Selex overtakes Conad and becomes number one brand by market share

The biggest challenge is played out on margins, not on market shares in the large-scale retail trade: the ebit margin (indicator of core business in relation to turnover) in the last year considered fell to 1.9% from 2.2% in 2021. The comparison on shares between two consortia is meaningless
