Quick Take — Mastrolia on the short-sightedness of leading brands is absolutely right

The aim is to reach 50 per cent Mdd products, while NewPrinces’ products will occupy 20 per cent.

Only 30% of the shelf space will be dedicated to industrial brands. ” Big brands tend to maximise profits by exploiting the recognisability of their products and customer loyalty in order to raise the price to the maximum,” Mastrolia argues.

I believe this is not only unethical but also a wrong strategy because, beyond a certain price limit, you lose even the most loyal consumer otherwise, how else would you explain the constant decline in market share of multinationals and big brands to the advantage of private labels and discounters?”

The big brands have raised prices disproportionately during Covid, creating inflation and disaffection: an autogoal, as can be seen from the evolution below.

Caprotti’s ‘extended family’ between Albiate and Milan

There is a long list of closely trusted people with whom the families of yesteryear surrounded themselves and filled their homes, people who called their employers by name ('scior Bernardo', 'sciora Bettina', 'scior Peppin'), knew more about their lives sometimes than themselves, and were always there at every important family event, with pride and sometimes even emotion.

In a nutshell, food inflation is higher than total inflation (which includes other items, such as energy, services, etc.) and therefore the AGCM opened a file on it.

We fear it has done so unnecessarily because the prices of many consumer goods – used every day in the lives of Italians – have risen sharply, much higher than average, even in the food sector as a whole. Below – in the first image – you will find some examples. This has also happened in other countries (e.g. meat in the USA).

Even during Covid- 19 a similar investigation was triggered, which then ended up in thin air: the real, long-standing problem, which has never been addressed and solved, is that of farmers’ profitability (see Repubblica piece below). On this issue you can also read this article.

Le Ossa dei Caprotti’ presentation – Soroptimist, 29 October 2025

I really stopped. During that long difficult period we talked about earlier, I stopped completely. It was a time of silence, of isolation. But then, with the end of the court case and Covid, I chose to look forward. I decided to see the Covid crisis as an opportunity to help. From there my personal rebirth and my work in the Guido Venosta Foundation was born
