Walmart, Unilever and Nestlé, were among more than 200 companies supporting efforts to end the use of single-use plastics and harmful chemicals, rather than face the cost of clean-up. The treaty aimed to address the pollution crisis resulting from the consumption of 60 kg per person of plastic per year.
Among the big polluters: Coca-Cola. The company said Monday that it now aims to use 35 to 40 per cent recycled material in primary packaging such as plastic, glass and aluminium by 2035, up from a previous target of at least 50 per cent by 2030.
