Many people have followed my story, commenting on it time and again and making me feel less alone: I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them!
For the sake of convenience, many idolised him; everyone knew him well and, above all, feared him… What Vhi has lost is a father who had a precious gem in his home but failed to appreciate it – perhaps because he was ousted – but whatever little innovation there has been at Esselunga is entirely down to Giuseppe Caprotti, and if he’d been given the chance to carry on, Esselunga would truly be a jewel in the crown of the retail sector. For Caprotti senior, this was a great missed opportunity.
PS: Esselunga remains the best chain in the retail sector, but I’m sorry to say that over the last three years I’ve seen signs of decline that Caprotti senior would not have approved of.
