Almost a hundred years after the company was founded, you can see the grandson of the founder and my great-grandfather, Bernardo Caprotti. He is the first one standing in the third row, on the right in the photo, together with his employees, mostly women, who were instrumental in the company’s success.
I often heard Lucia talk about my great-grandfather Bernardo that he was ‘a family man’ (page 91), who had worked at Manifattura Caprotti, before coming to stay with us in Milan.
P.S.: To this day I still receive messages not only from former Esselunga employees but from children or grandchildren of former employees of the cotton mill that operated mainly in Albiate.
