This article should have been entitled :
“Walmart expands home delivery service to reach 45 million households, straight to the fridge at home”.
Then came Mario Gasbarrino‘s questions, which you will find below, and I decided to change the heading of my piece.
In my opinion, the answer, in general, to his questions comes from the facts recently expressed by Walmart
In addition to home refrigerator deliveries, Walmart has other business techniques.
I won’t go into every single topic, drones or labour automation, etc., but it seems to me that the gap between US and European distribution is now unbridgeable.
Basically what Mario is talking about is happening.
In the US.

To Mario Gasbarrino’s list I would only add the falling birth rates that will heavily influence, albeit indirectly, the choices of distributors and industrialists , as the Nestlé case also shows.
Walmart expands home delivery service
The option is now available in five more markets in the US.

Walmart ‘sInHome delivery service is expanding into new markets.
Walmart is bringing its popular InHome delivery service to more households across the United States. Customers in the Philadelphia market, as well as those in Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis and San Bernardo, California, will now be able to use the service.
The five new service areas bring InHome’s total scale to more than 50 markets covering over 45 million homes [it was 30 million in 2022].
The option allows customers to receive fresh groceries and essentials at home or directly in their refrigerators.
“InHome’s expansion comes at the perfect time for Philadelphia families who are embarking on the busy holiday season and are looking for quicker and more convenient ways to complete daily chores,” said Haley McShane, general manager of InHome, Walmart U.S. “We understand that customers are busy and want to ensure they can have a seamless shopping experience that meets their needs.”
To place an order for InHome delivery, customers shop Walmart.com or the Walmart app for items eligible for in-store delivery and select an InHome delivery window. A highly trained employee uses a single-use access code to complete the delivery at the customer’s preferred location. A wearable camera records the entire delivery, which customers can access from their phones for up to a week after each delivery.
InHome, which was initially launched in 2019, is available as a Walmart subscription add-on for $12.95 per month. A Walmart subscription costs $98 per year. Current Walmart members can add unlimited, free, tip-free InHome delivery for an extra $7 per month or $40 per year.
Every week, some 240 million customers and members visit Walmart’s approximately 10,500 shops and numerous e-commerce sites in 19 countries. Based in Bentonville, Arkansas, the company employs about 2.1 million people worldwide. Walmart U.S. is No. 1 on Progressive Grocer’s 2024 list of North America’s top food and grocery retailers, while its Sam’s Club division is No. 8. Progressive Grocer also named Walmart one of its retailers of the century.
