Above: postcard sent by the wife of the brother of a French executive working at the factory in 1902, with an unusual view of Ponte Albiate.
Compiled 14 June, updated 15 July 2024
This project stems from the desire to preserve the historical memory of Manifattura Caprotti, which has represented much more than a company: it has been the beating heart of the entire community of Albiate [and partly also of Macherio], a symbol of innovation and dedication, and has represented the family’s industrial roots, which later led to the acquisition of a majority stake in Supermarkets Italiani, today’s Esselunga.
Through this content, I would like to offer you an overview of what Manifattura Caprotti was and what it represented. I invite you to discover the testimonies of former employees and citizens who wanted to share their memories about my family and the company.
I would like to thank: Filippo Viganò [also for the postcard on the cover], Eleonora Sàita, Massimo Giordani, Roberta Liberale, Tommaso Colombo, Aristide ‘Mentore’ Zotti as well as Luca Zotti [also for the fabrics you see at the bottom], Rosa Caspani, Renata Caspani, Marianella Caspani and Raffaella Colombo.
